Choosing music isn’t quite as easy as it seems. You may imagine a particular song being played at your event and in your mind see everyone enjoying it, and when it’s actually played, no one dances.
Music can spark memories.
Music can be timeless or can have age.
Music has feeling and creates feeling.
Dancing is chain reaction. (People dance when they see others dancing)
The key to having a packed dance floor is combining all of the above, for the right people, at the right time.
Think about songs that SOME of your guests have had memories TOGETHER with.
If you have a wide age range of guests, think about which songs are timeless and ALL age ranges enjoy them. If it’s a narrow age range, which songs fit within their age range. For example, if your guest list is mostly people between the age of 30 and 40, these guests tend to enjoy songs from 10 to 20 years ago, when they were in their “prime party age”, sparking memories and reliving those moments.
Some songs can make you feel happy, sad or angry. Listen to the lyrics, tone, and melody. How do you feel when you listen to the song?
Usually when a few people start dancing, a chain reaction is started and more people join.
We suggest picking between 20 and 40 songs. It’ll give the DJ a sense of what you and your guests enjoy. You could be doing yourself a disservice by picking less than that.
We hope this helped and thanks for choosing Eclipse Entertainers™! We look forward to creating your favorite memories!
